Tomorrow I will officially file papers to run for the 72nd Assembly District.  One of the most important priorities in my campaign is the restoration of funding to our schools in order to once again have a system that is the envy of the nation.

 

On this day of action by students in California's schools I support restoring full funding to our education system.  We need to shift our state priorities from funding more prisons to investing in our future by giving today's students the opportunity to contribute to California's educated workforce.


Rather than cutting funding, the legislature should look for new and former sources of revenue. I support a 10% tax on gas and oil extracted in our state. This revenue would be exclusively for schools. I also support removing tax brakes that allow the wealthiest Californians to effectively pay a lower tax rate than the poorest Californians. Without everyone paying their fair share of taxes, we cannot afford the world class education we have provided in the past. We also need to reform redevelopment law and corporate law. Both prevent money from going to the state that would be spent on education.

No one should be without clean water, clean air, health care, or an education, and yet so many people in our state are suffering because they cannot afford these things.  If these and other issues like a sustainable economy, decentralized clean energy, equal marriage rights and campaign finance reform are important to you, then I ask you to vote for me in 2010.
 
California needs a new energy plan based on clean, renewable power.  We need health care without insurance companies getting in the way.  We need a long term solution to bring water to our cities without harming our natural environment.  Last year Prop. 8 took away constitutionally guaranteed rights for the first time in our state's history.  This shameful action must be reversed to restore the right of marriage to lesbian and gay couples.  Public transportation has been cut terribly while huge sums of money are given to widen freeways that are still jammed with cars.  Elect me to work for real mass transit.
 
Please join me in campaigning for the California we all know we can have if we work together, not twenty years in the future, but now!

Ballot Statement

There is no ballot statement for me in the official voter guide because the expense to print it was about $ 4,000.00 per candidate.  Since Greens don't accept lobbyist cash, there was not funding for it this time.  Fortunately, it's cheap to post it to our website:

I do not accept lobbyist money because I am running to represent you and not the special interests.  While career politicians pander for dollars, I speak honestly about solutions for a sustainable future.

California needs a new energy plan based on clean, renewable power.  I support decentralized rooftop solar power to achieve energy independence and a cleaner environment.

We need health care without insurance company profits getting in the way of providing coverage for every Californian.  I support Single Payer health care.

We need a long term solution to bring water to our cities without harming our natural environment.  I oppose billions of tax payer dollars being used to pay back bonds for a peripheral canal intended to benefit agribusiness.  Local water use policies and conservation should be the centerpiece of any state water plan.

Last year Prop. 8 took away constitutionally guaranteed rights for the first time in our state’s history.  If the state is going to be in the business of sanctioning one’s chosen life partner the state should be fair and equitable.

Public transportation is cut while disproportional amounts of transportation funds go to widen streets and freeways that are soon again jammed with cars.  Elect me for long term transportation solutions.
